Open House and Cultural Event Days of the Czech Government Office in 2016
The Czech Government Office has prepared a number of cultural events for 2016. Via these activities, the Czech Government Office is granting access to its buildings and is not only giving members of the public the opportunity to get a look at how the institution functions as a whole, but is also granting the public access to gems of Czech cultural heritage.

Symbols of the Republic: Pillars of Czech Statehood
To mark the occasion of holiday of Czech statehood on 28 September, the Czech Government Office opened a long-term exhibit for the public at Hránský Palace called Symbols of the Republic: Pillars of Czech Statehood. A smaller version of the exhibit has now also been newly crated at the Straka Academy.

This year as well, children from orphanages got involved in the creative Christmas competition organised by the Czech Government Office
Prime Minister Bohuslav Sobotka together with the head of the Czech Government Office awarded the winners of the Christmas competition on 15 December 2015. The competition was prepared for children from orphanages by the Government Office, and this year the children were asked to paint pictures based on the theme “Most beautiful Christmas present”. The children entered more than 150 pictures in this year’s second annual competition.

Autumn 1939 – Student demonstrations and the closure of Czech universities
On the 17th of November, in addition to the events of 1989, we commemorate the memory of the murdered and imprisoned students of 1939. Following popular demonstrations, the German occupation authorities decided to close universities and punish student functionaries in an exemplary fashion.

The first meeting of the Revolutionary National Assembly and the election of T.G. Masaryk as President of the Republic
The 14th of November each year marks the beginnings of parliamentary democracy in the independent Czechoslovak Republic. It was on this day in 1918 in Thun Palace in Prague that the first meeting of the Legislative Assembly of Czechoslovakia, the Revolutionary National Assembly, took place.
