V4 country Prime Ministers discuss future of the EU and support for startups
Tuesday 28th March 2017 saw a summit in Warsaw of Prime Ministers of the Visegrad group of countries. During this Prime Minister of the Czech Republic Bohuslav Sobotka, together with the other prime ministers debated the future of the European Union and agree on joint support for new digital technologies and startups.

Prime Minister Sobotka: Rome Declaration on future of EU also contains important Czech priorities – security and prosperity
In Rome Czech Prime Minister Bohuslav Sobotka took part in an informal summit of 27 member states of the European Union. Together with his European partners he agreed on the main pillars of the EU’s future and all 27 states including the Czech Republic signed a joint communiqué containing these priorities. The summit in Rome took place symbolically on the day of the 60th anniversary of the founding treaties.

Prime Minister Sobotka has backed Tusk to head the European Council
Prime Minister Bohuslav Sobotka represented the Czech Republic at today’s one-day meeting of the European Council in Brussels. EU leaders reaffirmed Donald Tusk’s position as European Council President. During the meeting the CR supported the completion of the single market, increased industrial competitiveness and resolving the issue of dual quality foods.

The European Council will address the issue of migration, defence cooperation and support for economic policies
The European Council meeting will address three main topics, the latest developments relating to migration, cooperation on defence and support for economic growth and competitiveness. The election of the President of the European Council will also be on the agenda. As usual the Czech Republic will be represented at the European Council meeting by Prime Minister Bohuslav Sobotka. In his more than three years as Prime Minister, he has never missed a European Council meeting, and will again be present next week to defend Czech interests.

Prime Minister Bohuslav Sobotka met with Czech MEPs to discuss Brexit and dual quality in foods. He expects their support
On Friday 3 March 2017, Prime Minister Bohuslav Sobotka met with MEPs representing the Czech Republic in the European Parliament at the Office of the Government. At the latest of these regular meetings to which the Czech MEPs are invited by the Prime Minister, the main topics were protection for Czech consumers from dual quality foods, the European Directive on arms control, the situation in the European Union prior to the upcoming negotiations on Great Britain’s withdrawal from the European Union and establishing more effective cooperation between MEPs and the Government.

Today, Tomáš Prouza handed Prime Minister Bohuslav Sobotka his resignation from the position of State Secretary responsible for the European Affairs Section at the Office of the Government, effective from 31 March 2017.

Prime Minister Sobotka: The V4 countries will act jointly and vigorously against dual quality foods in the EU
On Thursday 2 March 2017, Prime Minister Bohuslav Sobotka attended an extraordinary summit of the Visegrad countries in Warsaw. Representatives of the Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland and Slovakia agreed to adopt a stronger stand against dual quality foods in the EU and drew up a joint declaration for the annual EU summit in Rome on the future of the EU.
