Aug 21 2008: 4:10 p.m., Premier To Present Commemorative Medals to Dissidents from the Totalitarian Era
Czech Premier Mirek Topolánek will today award Karel Kramář commemorative medals to the foreign dissidents who took part in the protests against the occupation of Czechoslovakia in August 1968. This award has been prepared on the occasion of the anniversary of Karel Kramář, the first Prime Minister of the Czechoslovak Republic. Later today Premier Mirek Topolánek will open the garden of the Office of the Government of the Czech Republic to the public and inaugurate an exhibition called “For Your Freedom and Ours“ with an award-giving ceremony.
4:10 p.m. – garden of the Office of the Government of the Czech Republic opened to the public
4:15 p.m. – meeting with dissidents, inauguration of the exhibition

The commemorative medals awarded by the Czech Premier are neither a decoration nor a material award but a symbol. They are presented by the Czech Premier to those whom the Premier as a politician decides to thank for their demonstrable merits for the restoration of democracy, human rights and freedoms. The award of the medals is in accordance with the constitutional principles of the Czech Republic.
The medal “Karel Kramář – Medal of the Prime Minister of the Czech Republic“ has 40 mm in diametre, its ribbon has dimensions 38x60mm, small ribbon 38x10 mm.
The medal comes in men’s and ladies´ versions, the latter having a 5 mm wide and 25 mm long ribbon.
