Prime Minister Bohuslav Sobotka met today, in an event accompanying the Visegrád Group Prime Ministers’ summit in the Polish town of Krynica, with Vice-President of Google Ms Caroline Atkinson. The topics discussed included improving digital literacy of the Czech population and building up a digital single market.

The Czech government has been focusing on digital agenda topics and their successful development for a long time. The coalition cabinet agreed that its fundamental priorities include development of sciences, research and also of Industry 4.0.

Building up a digital single market represents one of the priorities of the current European Commission. The Czech government decided earlier this May to coordinate this agenda from a single point an appointed State Secretary for the European Affairs Mr Tomáš Prouza the head coordinator of digital agenda. The coordinator’s priorities, as defined in the Action Plan for the Development of Digital Market, include e-skills, e-commerce, e-government, e-security and new challenges.

The Google Vice-President then presented to Prime Minister Sobotka the company’s new activities including the Digital Garage project, which Google developed in order to support obtaining and developing digital skills. These activities aim to educate general public and entrepreneurs in efficient internet use.
