Ing. Zbyněk Stanjura

Personal Details

Zbyněk Stanjura was born on 15 February 1964 in Opava. He is married. His hobbies include reading, travel, and sport.


He completed his studies at the Gymnasium in Opava by passing his maturita (school-leaving examination) in 1982. In 1987, he graduated in electronic computers from the Faculty of Electrical Engineering of the Brno University of Technology.

Professional and Public Activity

After graduating from university, he worked as a programmer at Agroprojekt Opava until 1991, after which he joined ESKON s.r.o., initially as a programmer (1992–1996) before rising to company director (1996–2002).

Since 1997, he has been a member of the City of Opava Assembly. Between 1998 and 2010 he was a member of the City Council, and from 2002 to 2010 he was the mayor of Opava.

From 2000 to 2011 he was a member of the Moravian-Silesian Regional Assembly, and until 2008 he was also a member of the Regional Council.

Between 2003 and 2010, he was Chairman of the Silesia Euroregion.

He has also served as Vice-President of the Union of Towns and Municipalities of the Czech Republic (2005–2009).

Since 2010, he has been a Member of Parliament of the Czech Republic, and from 2011 to December 2012 was the deputy chairman of the ODS parliamentary club.

Political activity

He has been a member of the ODS since 1991. In the period from 1997 to 2002, he was chairman of the Opava Local ODS Association. From 2000 to 2002, he was deputy chairman of the Regional ODS Association of Moravia-Silesia, and since 2002 has been the chairman thereof.

From 2000 to 2010, he was chairman of the ODS Club in the Moravian-Silesian Region.

He has been a member of the ODS Executive Council since 2002 and a member of the ODS Board since 2011.

Zbyněk Stanjura has been the Minister of Transport since 12 December 2012.
