On Thursday and Friday 21 and 22 March 2019, Prime Minister Andrej Babiš attended the European Council meeting in Brussels. The main topic of the first meeting was Brexit and the postponement of the UK’s departure from the European Union. On the second day, the EU27 leaders dealt with economic issues, such as trade relations with China and the US.

On Friday, 15 March 2019, Prime Minister Andrej Babiš met with the Prime Minister of Romania Viorica Dăncilă in Kramář’s Villa. The joint meeting, also in view of the ongoing Romanian Presidency of the European Council, covered current European issues including Brexit, the preparation of the European budget and migration. The Prime Ministers also discussed trade and investment cooperation.

On Tuesday, 12 March 2019, Prime Minister Andrej Babiš attended the Prague Castle celebrations to commemorate the accession of the Czech Republic and the Visegrad Group countries to NATO. The attendees saw speeches by the presidents of the V4 and NATO countries. In the evening, the Prime Minister spoke at the gala evening organised to commemorate the enlargement of the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation in the Černín Palace.

New Innovation Strategy of the Czech Republic has attracted attention in the USA
During his visit to the USA, Prime Minister Andrej Babiš, who is also the President of the Government Council for Research, Development and Innovation (CRDI), together with CRDI Vice-President Karel Havlíček, attended a number of important meetings, also focused on cooperation in research and innovation. The central theme was the presentation of the Czech Republic’s innovation strategy 2019–2030 and the active involvement of American partners in joint projects.

The Prime Minister and Minister of Defence attended in Warsaw the celebrations of the anniversary of the Visegrad countries’ accession to NATO
On 10 March 2019, Prime Minister Andrej Babiš and Defense Minister Lubomír Metnar, along with their counterparts from the Visegrad Group, attended the ceremonial commemoration of the 20th anniversary of the Czech Republic, Poland and Hungary joining the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation and the 15th anniversary of Slovakia’s accession.
