January 16, 2008: Premier To Commemorate Jan Palach

Czech Premier Mirek Topolánek will honour the memory of Jan Palach today at 2:00 p.m. by laying flowers at a commemorative plaque to Jan Palach.
Jan Palach, an undergraduate of Prague’s Faculty of Philosophy (Arts), burnt himself to death 39 years ago in protest of the occupation of Czechoslovakia by the armies of the Warsaw Treaty countries
