Prime Minister Fiala attended the European Political Community meeting in Granada
At the meeting, the Prime Minister stressed that energy security must be a top priority for Europe as a whole. “We unanimously agreed that energy policy is now part of national security and also that there is a need for pan-European cooperation on infrastructure interconnections. When designing energy security and cooperation in Europe, it is also important to take into account national conditions and differences between countries due to geographical and other factors,” said Prime Minister Fiala.
On the sidelines of the summit, the Czech Prime Minister met with British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak. “We discussed specific projects, especially cooperation between our countries in the development and deployment of small modular reactors,”said the Prime Minister. Last month, the Minister of Industry and Trade, Jozef Síkela, and the British Minister for Energy Security and Climate Neutrality, Andrew Bowie, signed a joint declaration in Prague on cooperation in the development and application of small and medium-sized nuclear reactors. Great Britain has thus become the first country with which the Czech Republic has signed such a declaration.
With German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, the Czech Prime Minister discussed the development of the automotive industry in Europe, a topic crucial for both countries. Options for addressing irregular migration were the main topic of the bilateral meeting with Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni. In Granada, the Prime Minister also met with Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, Belarusian opposition leader Sviatlana Tsikhanouska and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
