Andrej Babiš
Prime Minister of the Czech Republic
Andrej Babiš was born in Bratislava. He spent part of his childhood abroad, before graduating from a high school in Bratislava. In 1974-1978 he studied at the University of Economics in Bratislava, majoring in foreign trade. He settled in Prague in the early 1990s, founding Agrofert in 1993. The company initially with only a few employees grew to become a multinational group with more than 230 subsidiaries and more than thirty thousand employees. The company operates in the agriculture, food and chemical industries in the Czech Republic and other European countries. After about 20 years in business, Andrej Babiš entered politics to fight corruption and make the state more efficient. In 2012 he founded the ANO movement, which became the second strongest party in the elections a year later. He was Finance Minister from 2014-2017 and became Prime Minister following ANO’s win in the 2017 parliamentary elections. He held the post until 2021.
As leader of the opposition ANO movement in the October 2025 parliamentary elections, he won the confidence of almost two million voters.
Andrej Babiš speaks French, English, German and Russian and has four children.
