Committee for the European Union
The Committee for the European Union (EU) is a governmental working body responsible for determining and coordinating the positions of the Czech Republic within the EU. Meetings of the Committee are held either at the level of the Government members or at working level.
The Committee for the EU at government level is involved in formulating strategic interests related to the Czech Republic's membership in the EU, defining national positions on key issues discussed within EU institutions, and addressing other matters of fundamental importance related to the Czech Republic's EU membership. It also approves the mandate for the Prime Minister’s participation in meetings of the European Council.
The Committee for the EU at working level deals with and approves instructions for meetings of the Committee of the Permanent Representatives (Coreper), mandates for Czech ministers attending various configurations of the Council of the EU, and other materials related to the current EU agenda.
The Prime Minister of the Czech Republic serves as the Chair of the Committee for the EU. The Committee operates in accordance with its Statute and Rules of Procedure. The Prime Minister may delegate the chairing of the Committee at working level to the Minister for European Affairs or, where appropriate, to the Director General of the Section for European Affairs of the Government Office of the Czech Republic. The Secretariat of the Committee for the EU is administratively integrated into the Section for European Affairs
